So I'm back from the FR convention in Pittsburgh, it was so great to see everyone again, it was an amazing convention. Before we sort through whats left of our 12" fashion Kalyna, we still have a few of the fashions left from the Gene Convention in Florida last month. A lot of people have been asking me for a picture of our exclusive for this years Fashion Royalty convention, ...well here it is. Kalyna is a beautiful red bubble dress complete with many unique details including 'diamond and ruby' jewels and a glittery silver patent clutch. It is a perfect companion to our latest main line fashion Benefit Ball pictured in the top photo, together they are the essence of vintage couture.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again next week. We'll also have an exclusive sheath this year made from a beautiful silver silk shantung with clear glittered shoes.

These two new fashions will be in our warehouse the week of Sept 20th. Benefit Ball is exactly as i pictured it, the blue taffeta is actually shot with burgundy creating a subtle two-tone effect. Casual Comfort is a value packed set (suggested retail is only $73) with options, even the finely knit sweater can be worn by it's self as a dress, with shoes and boots it has great 'play' value.

Gene Convention Exclusive Sneek Peek

The rumours are true, Dressmaker Details Couture will unveil it's first fashion for the larger 16" sized doll; in particular Miss Gene Marshall. Alain asked to share the first preview picture with the Gene Convention Club, so until he does, this is the most I can share of the fashion set. All I can say is (in my opinion ) it looks fantastic and I know that collectors who covet and treasure one of my fashion in particular will NOT be disappointed. In this scale we were able to add more jewelry, some great fabrics along with the attention to detail that we strive for in all Dressmaker Detail fashion ensembles.

I can't wait to see all the Gene collectors from last year and to meet some new faces, I'll be there with my wife Larissa and our daughter Kathryn so we'll see you in Orlando.

Then two weeks later and I'll be in Pittsburgh again for FR and yes, there is a fashion for that event too....details to follow!

Fashion show presentation in Kansas City

Below is a link to the presentation I showed at the Barbie Convention in Kansas City. My dear friend Pat Henry of FDQ magazine put it together for me and my wife Larissa provided the 2 arias that you hear throughout the show. I was blown away by the final effect, the small size of a computer monitor does not do it justice, the 2 jumbo trons in the ballroom on the other hand was another story....amazing to hear and watch.

Barbie Con. Exclusive Shoe Pak

We did this limited Edition shoe pak for Windy City Dolls & Collectibles to sell at her sales table at the convention 2 weeks ago, I think she may have a couple left for sale on her site, http://www.windycitydolls.com/dressmaker.htm .

The set utilizes some different candy colour shoes from what was in our basic candy shoe set plus this set features a pair of red patent leather boots.

Finally back from the Barbie Convention in Kansas City MO, what a great convention. I'd just like to thank everyone involved for putting on an amazing show; everyone involved this year did a fabulous job. It was so nice to get to know everyone better and to meet so many new faces ( i know i sound like i'm gushing but it's true) anyway....many people are probably wondering about the fashions i did for the centerpieces at the events. One was based on the dress DOVIMA wears in the movie 'Funny Face' or version is called 'Funny Frock'. The other was based on the Dior/YSL gown featured in the Richard Avedon photograph called 'Soirée de Paris' We have a few of the exclusives left for anyone who missed out or couldn't make it for convention, here is a link to the page in the shop.

2008 Barbie Convention OOAK Live Auction Doll

With only a couple of weeks to go I thought I should give a little update for our part in this year's convention. Before the salesroom on Thursday I'll be doing room sales (please watch for signs) starting on Tuesday. Lots of bits and pieces, great table gifts, some odd boxed fashions I found while cleaning LOL and some current ones too, please drop by and say hi. When I move what's left to the salesroom on Thursday we will have the first exclusive available in the afternoon after the Mattel luncheon (that's all i can say on the matter, sorry). The second convention exclusive will be available in the salesroom on Saturday morning, so I hope everyone has a chance to drop by the salesroom a few times.

For the Live Auction Friday night I've repainted an "Interviewer" silkstone (I wasn't going to attempt the hair LOL) she is called "Katrine" (after my daughter Kathryn) and wears a one off colour variation of the upcoming "benefit Ball " fashion. This version is in red satin and features 'diamond' jewels including pretty hair pins. I really like her; I know my daughter is sad to see her go (she'll make due with the blue version when it comes out :))

In addition to the Live auction doll I've done, I have also sent along a pre-production counter sample of "Pretty as a Pearl" for the silent auction and a fun dressed silkstone gift box set for the raffle room, so don't forget your raffle tickets :)

Blushing Bride official pictures!

I know this fashion will be a collector's favourite, for me it means so much more. A similar silhouette to my wife's wedding gown, the addition of the pink tulle underskirt makes it new and unique. The embroidery pattern is inspired by my daughter's Communion gown which is set off all around the base on the gown with tiny seed beads and silver lined glass beads. Little details such as the lace gloves, blue garter and wedding bands tied to a ring pillow give it a great vintage flair, suitable for everyone's favourite doll and her friends. It should be available from your local Dressmaker Details dealer before the end of June.

2008 Barbie Convention OOAK centerpiece doll

Here are some pictures of the OOAK centerpiece doll i did for the Saturday night dinner at this year's Barbie convention coming up in Kansas City. The fashion is a red and white version of the up coming La Rondine fashion it comes across looking both a little coquettish and Canadian at the same time. LOL :)

Just thought I'd try our exclusive fashion on one of the latest Dynamite Girls. Though obviously a tad loose in the bust the overall look is well dynamite. A perfect dress for when they are not fighting fashion crimes.

what's a "La Rondine"?

A few people have asked me why this fashion was named 'La Rondine' The overall look of the fashion is a very dramatic one, a look i felt to be very operatic. La Rondine is an important opera to me, at my wedding, 11 years ago this May 24th, my wife (Larissa) serenaded me with a very well know aria from the opera "Chi il bel Sogno di Doretta", it's my personal favourite. La Rondine translated is simply the Swallow, a pretty bird and a pretty name for this fashion.

I've attached a recording Larissa did a few weeks ago of the aria below, please post here and let me know what you think.

Valia tries a little Couture

I received the Valia doll probably a month ago, she looked perfect in her gown but I was curious how she'd look in a few of my favourites that I happened to have here at home. Jolie en Noir is beautiful on her the dress fits well, the open toes even fit though they are a tad short at the heel but it works for photos. Pretty as a Pearl is breathtaking on her especially with her hair style. Sugar Plum looks great even with the original jewelry that came with the Valia giftset. I put her into Platinum Pleasures just to see 'very pretty' our sling back shoes fit pretty well too. I'm glad to see she can share quite a few pieces and even some complete fashions. Another amazing doll to have fun with.

Counter samples of whats to come

I thought I'd share some sneak peaks of the next fashions, which should be ready in the next few months. At the top is La Rodine, it turned out exactly as i envisioned. The skirt has just the right amount of train and the bra is adjustable to fit but silkstone and fashion royalty. Below that is Aria, the detail and beadwork on the bodice is incredible, so much depth it's hard to capture it in a photo. It's also a separate top so it can be mixed with other fashion pieces, very versatile. Blushing Bride (bottom photo) again is hard to capture the detail in my photos, the embroidery encircles the skirt with pearls and crystal beads hand sewn at the centers of all the flowers.

We should have more pictures including delivery and pricing by mid to late May. Stay tuned!

Jolie en Noir

I had originally planed for this fashion to be released at the GAW mini-convention this year until I heard the full convention was deferred to 2009. Since I’m sure I’ll have a new idea or two by then :) , I decided to offer it as an exclusive to our site www.dressmakerdetails.com

I had thought it would look 'pretty' in black (hence the name of the fashion), but it really turned out to be quite stunning let alone pretty.

It is available to order through our online shop though it will not be shipping till early March. It is an edition of 300pcs so it won't last long the original 'pretty' fashion sold through rather quickly. There are no ordering limits but orders will be processed on a first come first serve basis.

We took the very popular fashion 'Pretty' and enrobed it in black from the fur to the jewelry to the shoes. The detailed party dress features an asymmetrical hand beaded bust surrounded by gathers of black taffeta. The ballerina-like skirt of pleated tulle flows from the taffeta overskirt for a grand effect. A pelted faux fur wrap keeps bare shoulders warm on chilly evenings. Matching black purse, classic open-toed shoes and 'black diamond' jewelry complete this pretty look.

We are working on more fashions from book three the next one that will be ready will be Blushing Bride which I believe will be shipping in May. It is beautiful as soon as i get a sample back I'll post a photo.

More exciting news to come soon, I promise!
